Race Week - Mission Bay 2024

Not ideal being sick this week but we'll see what we can do.

The second half of the season has been tumultuous and nothing like I had in mind. From breaking my rib to catching Covid last week we'll see if I can get to the start line on Sunday. The family has been showing signs of illness and so it will be a game time decision if I'm able to race. Family first so, if it's too much for me to leave, then I'll stay home.

If I do get to race I'm looking forward to going through the paces. 2 weeks ago I was looking at trying to go sub hour but in all honesty, I might not be able to push threshold for all that long. So we'll have to see how things play out. It'll just be good to race.

Swim

A 500 is easy. If I can go sub 10 minutes, great! I had an idea to try out wearing booties because Indian Wells is apparently pretty cold. I might try it some other time during a workout to get a feel for swimming something on my feet.

Bike

I need to get on the bike this week and feel everything out. I have no idea what I'm able to do here. It's been weeks since my last ride. I rode a lot before vacation and then my 1 ride at the hotel was awful. Riding a Peloton at a gym without cleats is miserable. It's a short ride so I shouldn't be hard but I'm not expecting much.

Run

If you asked me yesterday morning, I would've been worried. After my 1 hr zone 2 run though, I felt extremely positive. It wasn't a fast or threshold type run at all but I did feel good. I ran a lot in Hawaii and so it makes sense. If I can go sub 30 minutes I'll be really happy. Don't know what to expect so we'll see.

Summary

I'm just gonna have fun with it. I think I can go sub 1:10 with all that I've had to deal with so that will be my goal. I won't be disappointed if I have to slow things down for any reason. We'll see, though. I have to get to the start line first and foremost.
