70.3 Indian Wells 2024
16 weeks. Here we go!
Prior to injuring myself I was signed up for 70.3 Indian Wells. The plan was to use the fitness gained for Coeur d'Alene and build upon it. I was going to take a week off then start the grind towards racing in Palm Springs.
When I broke my rib I was afraid those plans would be derailed and the season was over. Fortunately the week after the accident, I was able to withstand a few rides on the trainer. The second week I did a little more. Week 3 I added in even more including running and trying a very short swim. And finally at week four I started to push things a bit harder but was willing to stop if anything felt terrible. The good news is things are feeling ok. I'm definitely not completely healed but I am at a place where bike trainers and treadmills will be the norm for now.
I have 16 weeks to build up for this race. The balance will be in pushing myself and preventing injury. I bought some Normatec recovery legs to help me through the tougher days of training and hopefully do the tough job of keeping me healthy.
Ultimately my goal is to earn a spot to the Ironman 70.3 World Champs. I definitely need to go sub 5 minutes. The bike course is not hilly at all compared to CdA. The run course is rolling but with only 400 feet elevation gain, I'm not too worried about hamstrings. I will be lifting these next 12 weeks so hopefully that helps too.
Anyway, my kids are crawling up my ass. Ending this now.
