Looking ahead to the 2025 Season
It's the new year and it's time to plan some goals for the year.
Looking back on 2024 real quick. It feels like it was about finding myself in this sport again. After a decade off and entering a couple of local races in 2023 I signed up for a half-Ironman. I didn't know how training would go or how I would feel about everything so I kept it at one race for the year. After that race I felt awesome and committed to another one. Even though there were some hurdles (broken rib and Covid) I had a blast racing Indian Wells.
For 2025 I am starting with much better fitness and have even hired a coach to help with the mental load of planning. My coach came on board about 8 weeks before 70.3 Indian Wells and things have never been better.
Before I get into goals I'll lay out the rough plan for the first half the year. I want to race a lot. Racing is what makes this sport fun. So I've got a lot lined up.
April 5 - 70.3 Oceanside
May 4 - Local: Spring Sprint
June 22 - 70.3 Rockford
July 70.3 Boise (TBD)
TBD
Goals
Earn a WC Slot
Sub 5hr total time
Podium at a local race
Weight Goal: 170 (currently around 185)
Steer clear of injuries
The first two 70.3's of the year have the goal of earning a slot to 70.3 World Championships. It's likely that I won't podium so I'll need to place high enough to get lucky. The way I've been feeling this week, though, I feel like I'm gonna do pretty well barring illness or injury.
Sub 5hr will happen. I was pretty damn close at Indian Wells. A better swim, slightly better transitions, and just a slightly better run would've had me there. Whatever. If you scored more points you woulda won the game...in other words, duh if I was faster my time would've been faster.
Weight loss is a tough goal. I'm doing well honestly but I know dropping weight will see major gains on the bike when I climb. Also it will make everything easier. Just need to get the system going in the right direction.
Last year I finished 5th in both local races I did. I feel like I can place higher this year. I'm all-in.
Final Thoughts
I'm looking forward to racing. I know that there are a lot of variables including health, family and life, work, and finances but I'm fucking enjoying it. Even when I'm not feeling like training, once I get going I'm always happier.
